MTV Networks
While still freelancing for Shutterstock part-time, I have taken a position as a freelance Production Assistant with MTV Networks. This position is allowing me to explore the development and execution of pre-existing web pages into a new platform. I am working on a project regarding artists’ pages on MTV.com that includes updating content as well as editorial research and video work.
New Year
With 2011 coming to an end, I am currently working as a Content Assistant at Shutterstock in New York City. As a content assistant for the stock photo and video site, I work with the footage department to receive and organize media clips from independent videographers. I create metadata for these clips to be uploaded for download to the Shutterstock website. I check these clips for all technical issues, commercial purpose and editorial possibilities before they are live.
I completed my internship with Likeable Media where I was able to learn the ins and outs of a social media company. I worked with the creative team to design and conceptualize layouts for Facebook pages and Twitters accounts for fortune 500 companies around the country. I also worked with clients on their videos to be put on their account pages.
As of Christmas Eve, I wrapped up working with the New York Jets for their 2011 home-game season. I was able to work with the Consumer Sales and Services department to maintain relationships with season ticket holders. Whether it was setting up an event in one of the clubs and lounges or executing ideas for client/stadium interactions.
September
Beginning in September I was lucky enough to have been offered an internship with Likeable Media. A social media company in New York City where I work with the creative team on everything from branding, concepts, brainstorms, design and video production work. I also started freelancing with the company Shutterstock as a content assistant. At Shutterstock I work in the footage department to sort through clips from videographers and prepare them for upload to the site.
Both companies are providing me with great hands on experience and knowledge in the production and design fields.
Update
Since graduating from Quinnipiac University in May 2011 I have been working hard towards finding a job in the fields of Media Production and Interactive Digital Design. I am currently working for both The New York Jets as a Game Day Assistant for Consumer Sales and Services as well as freelancing in the Interactive Content department at Newsday.com, Long Island’s newspaper. Please feel free to look at my work throughout the site including videos and shows I have been a part of as well as design elements I have worked on. I am still actively pursuing career opportunities in my field and am open to different positions in my industries.
I am a highly organized individual and have displayed the ability to manage tasks and team members in a timely and efficient manner as well as execute projects creatively based on my experience in both studio operations and interactive digital design.
Welcome
Hello all! My name is Kim Shanahan and I am a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Arts. I majored in Communications with a specialization in Media Production and minored in Interactive Digital Design. Quinnipiac is located in Hamden, CT but I am from Long Island, New York.
While working as a Digital Media Intern for A&E’s History.com I gained hands on experience in web design, from obtaining and resizing images for photo galleries to researching events for editorial purposes. I worked with senior designers to give creative input, develop graphics and typography to incorporate branding into all packaging and advertising. While working on numerous projects, my main assignment was to develop a design concept for the History Channel’s IPad application.
As a production intern for Ascent Media I was able to work with the Yes! Network, A&E Television Network, The NHL Network and the WWE. I would encode and ingest videos, convert SD to HD as well as the logging and scheduling of programs. I was able to sit in on episodic editing sessions for network programming as well as assisted with the audio, lighting and set preparations for live programs.
While at Quinnipiac, I assisted the director in audio, lighting and set styling for a variety of shots for a commercial promoting the University, which aired on NBC New York.
While working with the New England Sports Network, I learned the set up and breakdown of equipment for live sports broadcasts for Quinnipiac University basketball and hockey games including cameras, tripods, lighting and audio devices. I set up mics and prepped the talent for interviews as well as kept in mind what the clients wanted from the broadcast.
Over the course of four years I had worked at a clothing store, Pacific Sunwear, at three different stores in New York and Connecticut starting as a Junior Brand Rep and ending in senior sales key-holder position. I performed scheduling, opening/closing the store, cleaning, organizing shipment and generating sales while providing outstanding customer service.
